I peeped this video over at Outdoor Afro, and thought it was hilarious. And sad. Well, more hilarious than sad. But, not really.

Could I Be Vegan For a Day?

Posted by Elisa in Eco Celeb

Because this event sounds pretty dope.

According to ecorazzi, Russell Simmons is hosting Farm Sanctuary’s A Celebration FOR the Turkeys at NYC’s Tavern on the Green on November 22, 2009. The brunch will include presentations by Mr. Def Jam himself and Johnathan Safran Foer, author of Eating Animals, and special guests Laurie Anderson (love!), Lou Reed and Ally Sheedy. Also on tap: a spread of the finest vegan yummies NYC has to offer, a favor bag (swag!) fit for an ecodopalicious angel, and an after soiree with lots of holiday nog, spiced (not spiked, unless you sneak in your whiskey-filled flask) cider and vegan pastries. Mmmm, pastries.

Farm Sanctuary, an animal protection organization, will put on a few star-studded events across the nation to bring awareness to the plight of all Turkey Lurkeys this holiday season.

Timberland has been greening up in recent years and has recently recruited Wyclef Jean as one of seven Earthkeeper Heroes in its Earthkeepers program. Wyclef will work with Earthkeepers to fight deforestation in Haiti through Yele Haiti, Wyclef’s nonprofit.

On deck: Urban greening events around the nation; a tree nursery in Haiti to provide an example of a sustainable business and help in reforestation efforts; and Yele Haiti Boots, with $2 from the purchase of each pair going to Yele Haiti.

I see you, Clef! I love when our people use their celebrity status for a good cause. Not only is he lifting up Haiti, he’s helping Mother Earth in the process.

Greening Zombieland

Posted by Elisa in Eco Celeb

ZOMBIELANDOctober is here my pretties, so ’tis the season for the tricks and the treats of Halloween. This month’s posts will be all about greening Halloween and related randomness.

Let the wild rumpus start!

What’s better than a zombie movie in October? An environmentally awesome zombie movie set. Woody Harrelson does not pause when it comes to the cause: dude insisted that the set and production of ZOMBIELAND be as green as possible. I mean, how are you supposed to fight zombies if you’re too worried about filling the landfills with plastic bottles, forks and spoons? By Woody’s bidding, all eating utensils were metal and had to be washable and reusable, everyone had to fill their own water jugs from a common cooler, and he even had a special vegan Twinkie made for his junk food loving character.

It didn’t stop there. Woody can be seen in Zombieland wearing The Real Deal Brazil Hat, handmade in Brazil of recycled truck tarps, so it can withstand the harsh conditions of zombie killing.

Erykah BaduI love me some Erykah Badu. After reading her interview on Babble, I love her even more. My girl homeschools, breastfeeds (baby Mars, the first Twitter baby according to Badu, is fed a diet of macrobiotic Twitty Milk), sees patients as a holistic practitioner and makes dope music. I mean, when does she have time to breathe? I love that she has such a passionate view on home education. No matter what kind of school your kids attend, there should still be some learning going on at home. Reading, debating, singing, dancing, painting, creating, playing, it’s all important. I think it’s awesome that she is so involved in her family’s education and promotes a healthy, creative lifestyle.
